About

Hello! Nice to meet you. My name is Sarah Varenhorst (she/her/hers). I'm an early-career information professional who is looking for opportunities related to librarianship, information literacy, outreach, and digital scholarship.

I have my Master's of Science in Information Studies from the University of Texas at Austin, School of Information ('22). I also have my Bachelor of Arts in Psychological Sciences from Pomona College ('20). My passion is the intersection between the sciences and the humanities, and I'm interested in how interdisciplinary approaches to problems can lead to creative solutions. I'm a technology-driven and forward-thinking professional and I am always seeking out new learning opportunities to further my expertise.

My dream career is one where I can work with low-income and first-generation students, faculty, and staff at a higher academic institution to help them succeed in a rigorous academic environment through promoting library outreach and information literacy. I come from a low-income background myself and am the first in my family to attend graduate school. I have experience working with a diverse student body through my three years at the Queer Resource Center of the Claremont Colleges as a student associate and co-head mentor of the Queer and Questioning Mentor Program. I believe it is important to support and uplift low-income, first-generation, BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, people who are neurodivergent and/or differently-abled, and other disadvantaged library patrons and I aim to continue professionally developing my skillsets throughout my career in order to create an inclusive academic environment.

During the course of my higher education, I have also pursued various technologies to grow as a technology-literate professional. I am a flexible learner and I love to "work smarter, not harder." For this reason, I have completed coursework not only on librarianship but also on languages like Python and SQL. I tend to gravitate towards STEM opportunities for this reason. My professional experience project (capstone project) was for a health information Library Guide (LibGuide) and I have completed various psychology and library science course projects on climate science and health information, including volunteering for a health psychology research group during my undergraduate program.

I am excited to see what opportunities are available. Thank you for taking the time to check out this website and I hope we can connect soon!

Sincerely,

Sarah
